The Problem

Living Without a Safe Home

Many families NRF supports live in homes built from mud, with no ventilation, lighting, or sanitation. They offer little protection from extreme heat, cold, or storms. In East Africa, over 60% of the population in some countries lives in informal settlements. In Pakistan, the 2022 floods destroyed over one million homes. In Iraq, decades of conflict have left orphaned families in structurally unsafe housing.

For children, an unstable home undermines their sense of security. For widowed mothers, the constant worry about whether the roof will hold is exhausting.
